Sale - Certificate of title - Damaged

Hi,

My admin support just accidentally hole punched a certificate of title.

Are you able to advise what the impact of that might be and any steps I may need to take?

Thanks

Answered

Thanks for the question.

NSW Land Registry Services have the discretion to accept a certificate of title which has been damaged, so long as the information recorded on the certificate is legible and any security features incorporated in the format remain intact. However without presenting it you cannot know if they would accept the certificate or insist on a replacement.

If, on inspection, Land Registry Services advise they will accept the hole-punched certificate keep in mind that their policies may change. For example, in the past they accepted laminated certificates but no longer do so.

A replacement certificate of title may be applied for when one has been damaged. See the Registrar General’s directions for further information.
